Day 4, May 28 2002

Home Previous day Next day

Abbotsford (US-Canadian border) to Jantzen Beach, Oregon, 344 miles start to finish lots of stops.

Relaxing day, decided to see Vancouver. Thank goodness for HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle)  lanes, we hit the rush hour big time at 7 am. Nice place, saw China town and lots of bridges, went down town and had breakfast in a cyber cafe. Very cloudy but roof down all the way and minor drizzle only.

Took an hour to get across the border but were in Seattle by 11:30. As David said, "Canada, been there done that. What's next?". Had a great day in Seattle, started with the needle, then spent a couple of hours in the EMP - Experience Music Project  - a "thing" at the bottom of the needle. Was a kind of shrine to modern music - Jimmy Hendrix has a whole section, also had the biggest indoor video screen in the world and Buddy Holly's glasses. David loved every bit of it.

Then took the monorail to downtown and walked down to Pike's Place fish market  and down to the harbor and saw an IMAX huge screen movie) and the aquarium.

Was a bit rainy so decided to head south and try and find some dry.  No luck, reached Oregon but sill damp and wet on roads so cut off at Jantzen Beach just inside Oregon before Portland and called it a night at the Double Tree. (Washington State - been there, done that) Had a great steak dinner and planned to shoot for the coast tomorrow.

On the way we figured the following:

Good things about Canada

Really really friendly people
good roads
nice weather
lots of animals
very clean
nice motels
Ladies that speak with French accents

Not so good things about Canada

"Poutine" at MacDonalds (cheese curds(?) and gravy on French fries) The metric system
Funny money (toonies and loonies)
Mayo in burgers
