King Salmon, Alexander Creek, June 1998 |
![]()
Here I am at the mouth of Alexander Creek,
in June 1998. David came with me (he took this picture),
and helped me get
this 28 pounder out of the water. He netted it all by himself while I was
fighting a
loosing battle with a line that was
terminally tangled around the oars. The weather wasn't so great, mostly
drizzle
that day, but that's the best weather to
catch fish - say the people at home and in the dry. In fact I latched
onto a much smaller fish, also a King but
probably around 15 lbs, about half an hour after we reached the
mouth of the creek but it broke loose when
the steel leader I was using parted at the eye. I was later really
glad it did get away because I would have
surely kept it which would have limited me out, meaning we wouldn't
have been able to bag the big one above! I'm
sorry to say David spent the last 6 hours of the day practicing
his casting and not much else, only a few
nibbles but not a really good bite at all. Still, there is always next
time! |
